I am interested in being part of a Parent Voice Committee. How and when can I do this?
We will be hosting an Oakville #3 Virtual Connection Session on Tuesday, May 13 from 7:00 - 7:30pm. This is an opportunity to meet your Principal and potentially some staff members, with a quick overview of the school's progress and vision, information for our incoming students and our plans to ensure proactive community connection and engagement.

Who is the Early Years Centre Provider? How do I register for my younger child who is not Kindergarten age?
We would like to welcome The YMCA of Oakville as our Early Years Centre provider.
Please visit their website to access the YMCA Family Handbook and learn more about child care programs.
WEBSITE: ymcaofoakville.org
The Inquiry Form has been updated on the site, so if families are interested in placing their child on the waitlist for the new site at Oakville #3, they can complete the form and select Oakville NE 3 Public School (new) from the dropdown menu.

If families have any questions, please reach out directly by emailing newschool3@oakville.ymca.ca.
Will there be a Before School / After School program and if yes, who will be the provider?
Families looking for before and/or after school care for the 2025-2026 school year will need to pre-register using the OneHSN/OneList online system.
If your family is currently using the HDSB directly operated before and after school programs, you are still required to pre-register as current registrations and waitlist applications do not carry over from one school year to the next. Spaces in the program will be confirmed beginning April 1, 2025. Priority placement will be given to families requesting full-time, before and after school care, Monday to Friday. All part-time requests will be considered after June 1, 2025.
Will the new school have a bus service as well?

NEW BUSSING INFORMATION
Due to the incomplete infrastructure of Wheat Boom Dr at Threshing Mill Blvd., temporary transportation will be provided for students who reside west of 8th line within the school’s boundary as a policy exception until there is sufficient pedestrian infrastructure (reference procedure HS-1-003 Eligibility Factors). This means students will be temporarily eligible for transportation and do not need to submit a courtesy seat application for the 2025-26 school year.
Please note that policy exceptions are reviewed annually, and once pedestrian infrastructure is in place, temporary transportation will no longer be provided. Changes to policy exceptions which impact student transportation eligibility are communicated to affected families before the end of the current school year to be effective the following school year, in accordance with operating procedure HS-1-008 Eligibility Reassessment.
Important: If your child will not be using transportation services, you must complete the Opt Out Form so your child is not listed on the bus manifest. Please note that should your circumstances change and transportation be required for your child while the temporary transportation is available, families can opt their child(ren) back in for busing by contacting your child’s school office, when school is open, or contact HSTS directly during the summer when the school is closed.
How can I get involved in the Parent Voice Committee for the school? How can I meet the Principal and get to know more about how to become involved and helpful for the students and the school?
Great question! Look for an invitation for Parents to join a virtual session in May. This will be hosted by your new Principal, Beth Tadman Hudson. We will be looking to develop a parent committee capturing voice around ways to engage families early on, and build a true sense of "the school as a hub" reflective of a new and growing neighbourhood and community.
Additionally, as a Sustainable Future School (the first to open as such), we will be creating a collaborative committee with representation from students, staff and parents to establish foundational work as we open our doors in September.
Finally, see our question/answer below with regard to Volunteering. We welcome parent / guardian volunteers and encourage volunteers to get their vulnerable sector screening completed.
If my children are currently in an HDSB school and we have moved to the Oakville #3 neighbourhood, do I have to transfer them to a holding school?
No. Your children can remain in their current schools if you are able to provide transportation. You should share your new address, in transparency, with your child's current school. You may be asked to complete an optional attendance form. The current school will transfer students to Oakville #3 inter-office when they are provided with your new address.
Will there be a hot lunch program?
We will be organizing 1 + hot lunch days in the new school year. The programs will depend on parent volunteers and community interest. We will communicate information about hot lunch programs, such as pizza days, as we provide information for September's start up.
Will there be extra-curriculars?
Our school will host a number of extra-curricular opportunities for students. These will depend on the students and staff as we discover how everyone wants to be involved. Typically, HDSB schools begin in September with a Cross Country Team. More on this as our staff takes shape!
Will I be able to volunteer?
All volunteers will be required to have a police check done with a Volunteer Sector Screening (VSS). This is an online process and can be completed through this link. There is often a delay in receiving the results, so it is recommended that you complete before September. Once you receive your Vulnerable Sector Screening, you will not need to repeat it as long as each year you complete a Volunteer Declaration form.
My child has Special Needs. What supports can I expect?
You can expect open communication and a partnership between Home and School. Our students with special needs in the regular classroom are supported by the classroom teacher given individualized needs (accommodations and/or modifications to program). Educators differentiate planning and instruction to meet the needs of various students and their learning styles.
Our Educational Assistants (EA Educators) are part of the Resource Team and are assigned to classrooms based on the needs within our school, and with students' health and safety at the forefront.
Support in a school is flexible and changing given the needs of students. We can assure you that we have the interests of our students at the centre of all we do. If your student has special needs, please indicate this at the time of registration (if new to the community). If your child is coming from a Halton School, we will ensure we are transitioning with the sending school and connecting with parents.
We will look at transition meetings for our high needs students in the late Spring and prior to September's start date.
My child is new to Kindergarten. How can I help prepare them for the start of school?
Students come to JK at various stages of readiness. Practicing self-help skills such as dressing and undressing, taking shoes on and off (velcro is your friend), putting toys away after play, etc. are a good start. Having play dates and social interactions to practice turn taking and support peer to peer relationships help to prepare students for the full day kindergarten classroom. However, do not worry if there are still skills to be developed. School and Home will work together to support students where they are at. For more guidance, please see our Kindergarten page
What will be the start and close time for the new NE Oakville # 3 Elementary School?
The bell times for the school will depend on the organization of bussing. As soon as we are aware of our bell times, we will communicate this with the community. We anticipate this information being shared with us at the end of May, early June.
How will I get updates and information about what is happening with the new school?
Once your child is registered (new to JK or new to community) and/or is currently attending one of the holding schools, you will be on our School Messenger list to receive email updates via HDSB.
